It was easy… and expensive.

My late father was a machinist (and I think a mechanical genius) who often had to make his own tools for specialized applications.  He taught me to think outside the box and see ordinary things for what they COULD be.  He taught me everything he learned about construction that he picked up watching contractors.  He used that knowledge to build our family home. I learned framing, plumbing, electrical, and land clearing by watching him.

Those lessons gave me the confidence to try to fix things myself.  Since money is always tight, this made a lot of sense (and cents!)

I started fixing and building my own stuff.  Not perfectly. Not fast. But it worked.

And that changed everything.
